Wings - Birdy

Despite being originally released in 2013 as the first single from the album 'Fire Within', this song has been climbing the UK charts recently. And rightly so. It's a genuinely beautiful song; as all Birdy songs tend to be.

I first heard this song on the Lloyds TSB 250th advert, it stood out to me and I immediately looked it up and downloaded the song. It was about a week later when Ryan Tedder, lead singer of OneRepublic and the 'Undercover King of Pop' tweeted about the song breaking the top 10 in the UK. The song was written by both Birdy and Tedder, a testament to their brilliant and timeless writing skills is that I had just assumed the song was her next single and people are obviously enjoying it for it to reach the top 10. If you haven't heard it yet, give it a listen:

I'm a massive Ryan Tedder fan and love finding out he's written a song with someone which I'll then listen to, such a dedicated fan in fact that I can almost tell be ear alone if he's been involved on a track or can at least say that's something he'd do. Or, lately, I've been saying that's his clap stage when he was quite gospel. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm 90% sure that he's singing in the background on this track doing those little 'ahh's and I don't know why but that makes me really happy.

Birdy has such a beautiful and emotive voice that almost overpowers everything, unlike many artists she can fight the instruments and really its her voice alone that stands out. But, I have to say, the whole song is brilliant and comes together to help amplify the emotion and highlight Birdy's voice.
There's something beautifully pure and raw about her whole sound, I would recommend checking out her music because I think its great.

And because I love this song as well, another Birdy and Ryan Tedder collaboration, check out 'Words as Weapons' below.
